In a Hooke's type universal joint each of the trunnion pins 38 is provided with a cup-shaped bearing race 34 held in the yoke arm 14 by a resilient ring 46 located in a circumferential groove 42 in the race. As shown in Fig. 3, ring 46 is formed with a radial thickness greater than the depth of groove 42 and an axial length less than the width of the groove, so that when the cap member 20 is bolted in position ring 46 is compressed radially and expanded laterally to fill the recess formed by groove 42. A pair of diametrically opposed relief grooves 47, 47A in the race seating 14 and cap 20 ensure metal to metal contact of these members in the peripheral regions 48, 50. A lubricant seal 54 is provided. |
