1,264,655. Selective hydrogenation in the liquid phase. BUSS A.G. 12 March, 1969 [25 March, 1968], No. 12915/69. Heading B1F. A process for the continuous and selective catalytic partial hydrogenation of unsaturated organic compounds which in the liquid state are mixed with a catalyst and successively recirculated in a plurality of stages, comprises, during each recirculation 18, Fig. 1, the step of generating in the reaction mixture by an injector 5, great shear forces of short duration to partially or completely eliminate the hydrogenation of the compounds to saturation, and the step of supplying the reaction mixture in the injector with adjustable amounts of hydrogen, the velocity of recirculation and the temperature of each stage being separately adjustable. The hydrogen is sucked into injector 5 from chamber 12, which chamber is controllably supplied by recirculation conduit 21. Fresh hydrogen is controllably fed into the reactor 1 from conduit 15. The process may be applied to the partial hydrogenation of straight chain fatty acids e.g. fish oil, to obtain margarine fats. |
