[Also in Group V] Apparatus for making moulded reinforced synthetic resin products, in which a web of resin impregnated material is enclosed between cover webs in a laminating apparatus and moulded and cured, is characterized by at least one stationary moulding unit and a laminating unit movable relative to the moulding unit and means for depositing the laminate on to the moulding unit. As shown, Fig. 1, a web 5 of fibrous material, e.g. of glass fibre, is drawn from a roll 4, impregnated with resin 7 from a hopper 6, and enclosed between cover webs 3, 9, drawn from rolls 2, 8. The combined webs are compressed between belts 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, to remove entrapped air and distribute, and express excess, resin, and are delivered as at 18 to moulding apparatus at a lower level. The laminating apparatus is mounted on a frame 1 (shown dotted) having wheels 14 running on rails. The moulding apparatus comprises a corrugated track 16, extending the width of the web, and the web 18 is pressed into the corrugations by a roller 19 having appropriate projections and carried on the frame 1. The moulded web is cured in a travelling oven 20 and the cover webs removed. In Fig. 3 separate moulds 22 aligned between the rails, receive the web 18 in turn and mould it by means of a clamping ring 25 and suction means 24, the web being cut before or after moulding. Successive moulds of the same or of different configuration may be used. |
