[Also in Division B5] In a device for plasticizing material in the space between two sloping surfaces one of which is rotated, according to Specification 2738/67, one of the sloping surfaces comprises two frusto-conical portions 201, 202 which are sloped at different angles so that the space 72c between the surfaces is widest close to means such as a ram 41c for forcing material into the space 72c. As shown the rotary mulling head 57c has a surface 58c corresponding to the slope of the portion 201. Plasticized material is moved along an annular passage to an outlet 74c leading to an injection moulding machine or an extruder. In the case of an extruder the ram 41c may be replaced by a screw or a plurality of sequentially acting rams. The shaft 56c of the mulling head has a helical thread 211 so that a small amount of material is urged leftwardly to lubricate the rotor. A waste outlet 21 is provided. A cooling passage 67c is provided in the mulling block 66c and a cooling chamber 62 in the head 57c is fed and exhausted through conduits 213, 214. |
