1,172,689. Machine tool details. H. MULLER. 30 Nov., 1966 [1 Dec., 1965], No. 53531/66. Headings B3B and B3C. A radial arm drilling machine comprises a column 3, Fig. 1, guided for vertical movement in a base 1 by rollers 20a, 20b, a beam 5 slidable in a guide 4 carried by the column, and supporting a spindle head 6. The column is moved vertically by a lead screw 22 rotated by a belt and pulley drive 24 driven by a motor 23. An outer housing 2 supports the column, is indexable by means of bearings 9, and is adapted to be clamped by segments 13, actuated by fluidpressure pistons, or an annular piston 16. In a modification, housing 63, Fig. 5, is mounted for linear movement by bearings 69, or the housing may be fixed. The housing 2 or 63 may be clamped by hydraulic, pneumatic, electromagnetic, or mechanical means. The feed screw 22 may be replaced by hydraulic or pneumatic means, and a counter weight 27, and also a spring or pneumatic device is provided for compensating for the weight of the column. Beam 5 is guided by rollers, and is locked by an hydraulic or pneumatic piston. Telescoping sheets 58, Fig. 1, are provided to protect the machine. Tool changer.-A tool-changing magazine 61, Fig. 5, is provided and is indexed by a motor 64, which drives gears 65a, 65b, and the sequence is controlled by cams 66a, 66b and limit switches 67a, 67b. |
