The method involves generating steam (5) by an evaporator (101) on a path of smoke (1), and sending a portion (6) of the steam to an activation reactor (401) to activate recirculated residues (10) collected on a bag filter (201). Another portion (7) of the steam is overheated and sent to a catalytic denitrification reactor (301) to regenerate a catalyst. The smoke is mixed with a denitrification reagent and introduced permanently on catalyst during the regeneration of catalyst by overheated steam (7'), which is intermittently introduced into the denitrification reactor, segment after segment. The catalyst is a selective catalyst reduction (SCR) catalyst. An independent claim is also included for an installation for purification of smoke.
