A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding a 3D(Three-Dimensional) wavelet-based image are provided to increase a compression rate of video with not much movement or a 3D image. A coefficient obtained by performing 3D discrete wavelet-transforming and quantizing on an input image including 'n' frames('n' is an integer of 2 or greater) is divided into a plurality of 3D code blocks. The plurality of divided 3D code blocks are scanned in the three plane directions perpendicular to each other, respectively, and arithmetic coding is performed on each scanning direction. Coding efficiencies of the data arithmetically coded in each of the three plane directions are compared, and data arithmetically coded in a plane direction with the highest coding efficiency is extracted. |
