Composite parts are produced by casting together an element of readily machinable cast iron containing spheroidal graphite and having 3À3 - -3À8% of carbon, 2 - 3% of silicon and 0À4 -0À8% of manganese and an element of air-hardening wear-resistant cast iron containing 3 - 3‹2% of carbon, 1À9 - 2À2% of silicon, 0À7 - 0À9% of manganese, up to 0À2% of phosphorus and up to 0À1% of sulphur, the part then being heated for 1 to 2 hours at 900‹ C. Œ 20‹ C., furnace cooled to 800‹ C. Œ 20‹ C. and allowed to cool in air. Particular ranges of composition for the wearresistant element are disclosed as follows:- Particular components referred to are gear-box forks and rocker arms. |
