The subject-matter of the present Specification is similar to that of Specification 1,176,081 but the claims are directed to the control mechanism for rotating the first non-rotating gearwheel if, when it is moved towards the second non-rotating gear-wheel for a lapping operation, the tips of the teeth engage, the mechanism comprising a control member formed as a rolling segment having a friction lining, a control disc driven by the control member, a first drive member for actuation of the control member, a second drive member for passing the member against the disc, and means for adjusting the magnitude of the movements of the mechanism. The operation of the machine also differs from that of Specification 1,176,081 in that upon engagement of the tips of the teeth of the gear-wheels when the first gear-wheel is moved towards the second, the first gear-wheel is retracted from the second while the control mechanism effects a small rotation thereof so that, upon subsequent advancing of the first gear-wheel, its teeth engage the gaps between those of the second gearwheel. |
