An anti-spill storage battery comprises two or more cells, each having an anti-spill vent opening into the cell at a point which will be above the liquid level in all attitudes of the cell, and a common secondary chamber connected to the outlets of all the vents and communicating with the atmosphere through a further antispill vent. Figs. 2 and 5 show a 4-cell embodiment of the invention, from above with terminal plate and vent cover removed, and in vertical section through 5-5 in Fig. 2, respectively. In these cell vents 35 give into a generally H- shaped manifold 26, from which a passage 40 (round which is a " weir " 41 to prevent small quantities of liquid entering the passage) leads into the secondary chamber 16, which lies between the two pairs of cells and is relatively narrow, and is provided with an antispill vent 45 opening into an outlet chamber 21 beneath the false bottom 46 of the secondary chamber packed with absorbent material and venting through opening 47 to the atmosphere. |
