Diethylα-(2-dibenzofuranyl)-malonate of the formula is prepared by heating ethyl 2-dibenzofuranyl acetate with a 1-1À5 equimolecular amount of sod. ethoxide dissolved in an over equimolecular excess of diethyl carbonate. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the above compound together with usual pharmaceutical carriers are found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-flogistic activity.
