[Also in Division H1] A plumb-line comprises a casing 2, a drum 4 in the casing on which a line 5 is wound, the line carrying a plumb-bob 1, the side 11 of the casing being provided with an assembly 12 arranged in the form of a uniplanar co-ordinate array of a plurality of magnet elements each containing magnetic material to enable the plumb-line to be held against a metallic construction 18. Adjacent faces of the magnet elements contacting the construction 18 are of opposite polarity and the exterior surface of the assembly 12 is provided with a layer of rubber. The elements of the assembly 12 are in pellet form and the magnetic material is preferably in the form of grains. The casing 2 is provided with a handle 8, and a handle 6 is used to wind or unwind the line 5 in the drum 4. A housing 9 is located on the casing 2 to house the plumb-bob 1 when the line 5 is fully wound on the drum.</p> |
