[Also in Division D1] A connection between the core 12 of a Bowden mechanism and an actuated element 20 comprises a terminal member 18 secured to the core end 22 and having a socket 26 to receive a ball 28 on a stem 30 of the element 20, and a sleeve 24 mounted on the terminal member 18 and movable relative thereto between a receiving position (shown) in which the ball 28 can pass into or out of the socket 26 through an opening 32 of the sleeve 24, and a retaining position (Figs. 3 or 4, not shown) in which the stem 30 engages in a slot 34 in the sleeve 24 to prevent separation of the actuated element 20 from the terminal member 18. The sleeve may be axially slidable or rotatable on the terminal element, a pip 36 in the sleeve engaging one or other of two recesses 38 in the terminal member when the sleeve is in one or other of the above positions. A belled end 40 of the sleeve 24 slidably engages a terminal element 16 secured to the sheath 14 of the mechanism. The plastics terminal member 18 is moulded on to a loop 22 of the core 12. |
