[Also in Division G3] The carriage 3 of a machine tool is moved along a guide 2 by pressure fluid in a fixed cylinder 7 acting on a piston 6 attached to the moving carriage, the supply of pressure fluid to the cylinder being controlled by a servo-valve 11, 12, the slide 11 of which is initially moved by rotating a worm drum 20 by means of a stepping motor 24 so that the helical thread 22 of the worm drum 20 acts on dogs 28 fixed to the baseplate 4 of the machine tool to displace axially the worm drum 20. The dogs 28 are provided over the complete length of travel of the carriage 3 and are spaced apart at a distance equal to the lead of the helical thread 22. The dogs comprise rolling outer sleeves to reduce friction which are eccentrically mounted as pins to effect fine adjustment of the spacing of the dogs. |
