Apparatus for flocculating and separating sewage sludge comprises a tank 10 within which is a mixing well 34 defined by a U- shaped wall 34a (see also Fig. 3, not shown); sludge is introduced at 12 and mixes with gentle turbulence with a pressurized dispersion of air in water discharged downwardly into the well at 42b. Flocculating reagent may be added to the air-water dispersion at 46. The flocculant particles are buoyed to the surface where they are removed by skimmer blades 24 while the clarified effluent discharges over a weir into a launder 16. |
