Cyclopentenone derivs. of general formula I R = Me or Et Intermediates for synthesis of prostaglandins. By conversion of cyclopentandiones II to 2-(6-alkoxycarbonylhexyl)-3-MeO-cyclopentenone (III) by alkylation then reacting III with a Grignard cpd. IV which on treatment with mineral acid gives I X = Hal, R' = halohydropyranyl.
