Novel cedryl ethers of formula <FORM:1115540/C2/1> where R is C1- 4 alkyl, allyl or methallyl, are prepared by reacting an alkali metal derivative of cedrol, prepared from cedrol and sodium hydride or sodamide, with C1- 4 alkyl halide, a dialkyl sulphate, a C1- 4 alkyl ester of an aryl sulphonic acid, allyl halide or methallyl halide. Examples describe the preparation of cedryl methyl ether, cedryl allyl ether, and cedryl ethyl ether. An example also describes the hydrogenation of cedryl allyl ether over palladium carbon catalyst to give cedryl propyl ether. These compounds are used as active ingredients in perfume compositions.ALSO:Perfume compositions contain novel cedryl thers of formula <FORM:1115540/A5-A6/1> where R is C1-4 alkyl, allyl or methallyl, in addition to other substances. An example describes a formula for a perfume of Bergamot Oil, Orange Oil, Bitter Orange Oil, Lemon Oil, Mandarin Oil, Lime Oil, Ocimene, ortho tertiary butyl cyclohexyl acetone and cedryl methyl ether. |
