In the dye-setting of a continuous length of cloth by passage through a high pressure steaming chamber, the inlet and outlet sealing means each comprise an adjacent pair of soft rubber rolls 1, a spaced pair of hard rubber rolls 7, a drum 14 having a slit (22, Fig. 2) through which the cloth passes, and a pair of sealing plates 19 each having an orifice through which an end of the drum passes. Rolls 1 and 7 are water-cooled: Wear between rolls 7 and drum 14 is prevented by lubricating sealing pieces (12) set in grooves in the drum. Similarly, the rolls have wear-resistant surfaces (46, Fig. 7) in contact with the sealing plates. Means are provided for pressing together rolls 1 (Fig. 3) and plates 19 (Fig. 4) and vertically shifting sealing drum 14. The pair of hard rubber rolls may be dispensed with (Fig. 12) or supplemented by a pair of steel rolls. Each sealing means is connected via an orificed flexible membrane to the steaming chamber either directly (Fig. 9) or via one or more air pressure chambers (Fig. 11).</p> |
