1,226,507. Electrode for use in deionizing liquid. RHONE-POULENCS.A. Feb. 28, 1969 (Feb.29, 19681 , No. 11011/69. Heading C7B. [Also in Division C3] An electrode comprises a support at least partially coated with a copolymer of vinyl alcohol and a comonomer containing ion-exchange groups. Specified comonomers are vinyl sulphonic acid, acrylic or methacrylic acid, vinyl phosphonic acid or a salt of such as acid or a vinyl -N-alkyl pyridinuim salt. The resin dissolved in water containing methanol; or containing chlorinated polyethylene glycol in dioxan as a cross -linking agent if desired, is coated on to a metallic base which in the examples is mushroom-shaped. This is used as an anode with an electrode to which is adhesively attached a sulphonated polystyrene cation exchange membrane and used to deionize nitrobenzene. |
