[Also in Divisions G1 and G3] The invention relates to monitoring and controlling the hydrazine concentration in the electrolyte of a fuel cell by a sensing cell, located in the electrolyte circulating system to the main fuel battery structure, and comprising a fuel cell with a main cathode and anode 14, 18, connected to a load 10 and an auxiliary anode 16 connected through, e.g., a contact millivoltmeter to the main anode. The contact millivoltmeter is connected to a relay circuit (not shown) controlling the hydrazine-injectionsolenoid-valve. To increase the accuracy of the measurement, the load and voltmeter may be connected alternately by a vibrator to obviate the resistance drop in the electrolyte due to load current Fig. 3 (not shown). Cell construction.-The anodes may be porous nickel, coated with catalytic materials, e.g. noble metals, nickel boride, cobalt boride, or a porous material coated with a mixture of palladium with rhodium and/or platinum. The auxiliary anode is separated from the cathode by a spacer 12, e.g. of asbestos. A pair of spaced cathodes may be used to reduce the cathode current density, Fig. 6 (not shown). In an alternative circuit. Fig. 5 (not shown), using an external power supply, load current is circulated through the cell in half-wave pulses, from a power pack (32), and the meter is connected through half-wave diode gates (42, 44) instead of using a vibrator.
