1,184,398. Brake linkages. ORSCHELN BRAKE LEVER MFG. CO. 4 June, 1968 [28 March, 1968], No. 26640/68. Heading F2E. The invention relates to a foot-operated mechanism employing an overcenter toggle to actuate a brake cable. As described, a pedal 12 pivotally mounted at 10 drives a copivotal elliptical gear 14 meshing with a second elliptical gear 16, pivoted at 18 and provided on either face with a plate 20 connected to a cable operating yoke 26. To produce a quick take up of slack in the brake cable, the elliptical gears 14, 16 provide initially a low mechanical advantage which increases as the pedal is depressed and the toggle pivot 24 moves overcenter of the gear pivot 18 to lock in the "brake-on" position. The brake is released by a second pedal 50, pivoted at 18 and provided with a projection 50a which contacts the toggle pivot 24 to move it overcenter. |
