Arom. polyesters and polyamides for use in photoconductive compns. Have recurring units -CH2CH2OC6H4C(R1) (R2)C6H4OCH2CH2Y- where R1=H or 1-10C alkyl, R2=aryl or 1-10C alkyl, Y=-OCOR3OCO- or -CH2NHCOR4CONHCH2- where R3=2-10C alkylene 1-2C dialkylene cycloalkane or 1-2C dialkylene arylene, and R4=arylene or 2-8C alkylene. Prepn. is by cyanoethylatio of bisphenol to give a product which is converted to a diester or diamine and then polycondensed with a glycol and/or an acid chloride or diester. The polymers are pref. used as binders for organic photoconductors.
