1,227,906. Treating effluents. TASMAN VACCINE LABORATORY Ltd. 14 July, 1969 [15 July, 1968], No. 35340/69. Heading C1C. [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] Protein, including amino acids and polypeptides, and/or fats, are removed from effluents by contact with particulate ion-exchange material which is subsequently regenerated for reuse. The eluate obtained from the ion-exchange material upon regeneration is treated by an adjustment of pH and heating to coagulate the protein &c. which is recovered. The ionexchange material may be in the form of one or a plurality of beds and may comprise a crosslinked regenerated cellulose, e.g. viscose. The effluent may be further treated in a bed of fibrous or sponge form of diethyl aminoethyl cellulose or carboxymethyl cellulose resin and a percolating filter or an activated carbon, bone char or coke filter. The treated effluent may be chlorinated. |
