Extruded, inflated tubular olefin film is advanced form the extrusion device downwardly in flattened form through a bath of cooling liquid. The tubular film is guided into the bath between a pair of cooling rolls positioned parallel to the level of the bath. The cooling rolls are rotatable, positioned partly below the liquid surface and spaced apart so as not to press the film together when it reaches the bath. The flattened film is drawn through the liquid while being in contact with a guide means positioned in the bath. Frictional forces between the film and the guide means prevent lateral movement of the film without transmitting a drawing effect. The necessary drawing force acts upon the film after it moved out of contact with the guide means. |
