PURPOSE: A composition containing 2,4-bis(p-hydroxypheny)-2-butenal for preventing or treating dementia is provided to suppress inflammation and amyloid generation and to be used as a therapeutic agent for treating Alzheimer's disease or dementia. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating dementia contains pharmaceutically effective amount of 2,4-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. A functional food composition for treating dementia contains 2,4-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal as an active ingredient. 2,4-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal is denoted by chemical formula 1 and is a product by tyrosine-fructose Maillard reaction. |
