A signal receiving device in a communication system using an STTC(Space-Time Trellis Code) and a method are provided to enable an STTC decoding process capable of reducing decoding complexity, and to decode the STTC so as to realize FER(Frame Error Rate) performance almost similar to a Viterbi decoding method. When a receiving signal is inputted, the first stack is generated by using stack algorithm. The first stack is generated as the second stack by using a relative distance. If length of a codeword existing in a top entry of the second stack is the same as frame length, the corresponding codeword is detected as a codeword transmitted from a signal transmission device. The relative distance refers to a value created by dividing accumulated metrics of the corresponding codeword by code length of the corresponding codeword. |
