[Also in Division C1] A sintered cermet comprises a refractory oxide such as Al 2 O 3 , BeO, ZrO 2 and up to 35% by weight of an alloy of at least one of W, Mo and Cr with 10-90% by weight of the metal content of Ti and/or Zr. The cermet may also contain up to 5% of the metal content of Ni, Nb and V. The powders less than 10 microns in size are mixed together as the elemental powders or the metals may be added as a pre-formed alloy. The Ti and Zr may also be added as the hydrides. Sintering is effected in vacuo or a reducing atmosphere above 1500‹ C. preferably above 1800‹ C. |
