PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a control method thereof are provided to increase the speed of data communication with a USIM(Universal Subscriber Identity Module) card by classifying a communication method for checking a state of the USIM card from the other communication method for the date communication with the USIM card. CONSTITUTION: A first communication unit(173) checks the separation of a USIM card at set time intervals. A second communication unit(175) performs data communication between a terminal and the USIM card by using a communication method different from the first communication unit's. A control unit(180) controls the activation of the first and the second communication units by using information related to the data communication. The control unit controls the activation of the second communication unit according to the capacity of data.
