PURPOSE: A signal processing method of a portable computer including a pointing button and a portable computer therefor are provided to prevent malfunction caused by mal-operation when the mal-operation occurs between key buttons and a pointing button. CONSTITUTION: A pointing module(320) includes a pointing button(321) and points and selects a predetermined spot on a screen. A keyboard unit(330) includes key buttons(331) adjacent to the pointing button and a sensor module(332) sensing approach and touch to the key buttons. When the manipulation of the pointing button is recognized, a system control unit(340) performs operation corresponding to the manipulation of the pointing button or not according to a sensing result of the sensor module. When one or both of the approach and the touch are sensed, the system control unit does not perform the operation corresponding to the manipulation of the pointing button.
