A method for operating a refrigeration system in order to perform temperature control of a closed volume (5) is disclosed. The refrigeration system comprising a compressor (2), a condenser, an expansion device (3) and an evaporator (4) connected in series in a refrigerant flow path. The refrigeration system further comprises one or more fans (6) arranged to cause a flow of air across the evaporator (4). The compressor (2) is controlled by switching the compressor on or off in accordance with a measured temperature, of air which has passed across the evaporator (4) and is being supplied to the closed volume (5), and in order to achieve a set point temperature, Tset, in the closed volume. During this a compressor switching pattern is determined. A temperature, Treturn, of air returning from the closed volume (5) to be passed across the evaporator (4) is measured, and a temperature difference, Tdjff, as TdiffTreturnTset, is caiculated. Ifl the case that Tdlff is smaller than a predefined threshold value, the speed of the one or more fans (6) is controlled on the basis of the determined compressor switching pattern, and on the basis of Tdjff. Temperature fluctuations inside the closed volume (5) are minimised, and energy is conserved.
