PURPOSE: A spherical object flight speed estimating method using a stereo camera is provided to increase the number of frames per second and shorten the image processing time for the estimation of the spherical object flight information as the obtained image becomes smaller. CONSTITUTION: At least two monitoring area pairs(15,25) (16,26) are set up in a stereo camera image. The monitoring area pair is set in a first camera image(11) and a second camera image(21) in order to monitor the passage of the monitoring area of a spherical object image(17). Whether the spherical object image passes or not in each camera image depends on the difference in darkness or color difference between a previous monitoring area image and a current monitoring area image. In case the object image is not sensed, the average of the previous monitoring area image and the current monitoring area image is stored as a monitoring area image to be used in the next monitoring time. The monitoring area is used to calculate the passage location of the spherical object image. |
