Beta-Lactones are reacted with olefines and halogens at -50 to +50 degrees C opt. in an inert solvent. Pref. beta-halopropionic acid-haloalkyl esters have the formula X-CH2-CH2-COO-Y (where X is Cl or Br and Y is -CH(CH2X); -CH2-CHX-CH2X; -CH2-CH=CH-CH2X or -CH(CH2X)-CH=CH2). The esters are intermediates for (co)monomers in manufacture of plastics, and are also used as plasticisers. |
