RECOMBINANT ADENOVIRUS ENCODING SPECIFIC IODINE TRANSPORTER (NIS)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for gene therapy for tumors.

SOLUTION: There are provided a method for inserting a gene encoding iodine-specific carrier (Na+/I-symporter)(NIS) in tumor cells by using an adenovirus vector for promoting accumulation of iodine in the cell; a defective recombinant adenovirus for replication comprising the nis gene; and a method of use of the vector in a cancer-treating method comprising a combination of nis gene transfer into tumor cells and metabolic radiotherapy.
