A method of routing data packets associated with a communication session between a sending node and a receiving node using an intermediate node is disclosed. The method includes the intermediate node receiving a signal indicating an allocation of data packets of the communication session to be sent to the receiving node; determining whether one or more data packets of the allocation of the data packets is to be provided by cached data packets cached by the intermediate node; and responsive to a determination that one or more data packets of the allocation of data packets is to be provided by the cached packets, sending one or more of the cached data packets.
