<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device in which a sheet guide is separated from a side edge of a sheet during a recording operation for reducing back tension, and to solve the problem that, when a device user manually operates the sheet guide during the recording operation to align it to the side edge of the sheet, misalignment of the sheets, or a damage such as a scratch or folding of a sheet edge may be generated when the sheet guide moves to the inner side after the separation operation is finished. <P>SOLUTION: This recording device is provided with a guide member lock member (side guide lock gear 25) transitioning between a meshing position for meshing with a rack part (left guide arm member 22) of a guide member (left guide member 18) and a non-meshing position separated from the rack part of the guide member.
