An electric vehicle that includes a hydrocarbon engine 202 coupled with a generator 204, the generator 204 comprising a positive source connection and a neutral source connection. The electric vehicle further includes a plurality of interconnected electrical energy storage devices 106, each electrical energy storage device 106 comprising a positive terminal and a neutral terminal. Also included is a switching subsystem 104 configured to successively electrically connect each electrical energy storage device 106 to the generator 204 for a selected time interval in a repeating cycle by electrically connecting the positive source connection of the generator 204 to the positive terminal of an electrical energy storage device 106 and electrically connecting the neutral source connection of the generator 204 to the neutral terminal of the electrical energy storage device 106. The electric vehicle also includes a motor 108 for propelling the vehicle. |
