<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program playback method and a recording and reproducing apparatus in which occurrence of excessive correction due to the overlap of elements, or the impact of repetitive compression and decompression on the image quality is suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing apparatus comprises a detection unit, an acquisition unit, and an output unit. The detection unit detects the connection of a display device by a bidirectional interface. The acquisition unit acquires the information unique to the display device by the bidirectional interface. When the fact that the display device thus connected is such an apparatus as specific specifications are ensured among limited apparatus and the fact that "specific conditions" exist are detected, the output unit outputs an output image signal while fixing according to the "specific conditions". <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
