The invention addresses the problem of providing an object detection device able to highly precisely detect an object for detection, from an input image. In the object detection device (1), a detection window setting unit (11) inputs a photographic image (21) photographed by a camera. The detection window setting unit (11) sets a detection window area for the photographic image (21), and extracts the detection window area image from the photographic image (21), as a standard window image (22). An image processing unit (12) performs enlargement, reduction and other image processes on the photographic image (21). Modified window images (23) are extracted from the enlarged photographic image (21) and the reduced photographic image (21). For each window image, a rate computation unit (13) computes a matching rate that indicates the likelihood that the object for detection exists in the window image, on the basis of characteristic data (51) that indicates a characteristic of the object for detection. On the basis of the matching rate for each window image, an evaluation unit (14) evaluates whether the object for detection exists in the detection window area. |
