The medical handheld device (1) has a power unit, a power consumer and an actuation element (9) for actuation by a user for retrieving power from the voltage source for operating the handheld device. A switching device is moved between a switching position and another switching position. A line connection between the power consumer and a voltage source is interrupted by the switching device in former switching position, where the switching device is arranged to transfer from the former switching position into latter switching position during the actuation of the actuating element.
