The device has a side airbag (2) unfoldable in a vehicle inner area (1.1) between a side window opening (1.3) of a vehicle (1) and a vehicle occupant by filling with gas. The airbag includes fastening elements i.e. Velcro(RTM: Hook and loop fastener) surface elements, by which the side airbag is fixed at a lining part of a B-column (1.4) and/or a blown airbag in a blown condition. The lining part includes a textile web in given regions. The fastening elements are extensively arranged at the side airbag.
