This input device is provided with: a light source (L); an optical imaging means (camera (C)) disposed at the same side of a hand (H) as is the light source (L); a control means; a shape recognition means that, from a 2D image obtained by the camera (C), calculates the coordinate (G) of the distribution center of mass of the shape of the palm and the coordinate (T) of a fingertip; and a motion determination means that compares the distance (d) between the center of mass coordinate (G) of the palm and the fingertip coordinate (T). When the distance (d) between the center of mass coordinate (G) of the palm and the fingertip coordinate (T) contracts or expands before/after measurement, the motion of the hand (H) at such time is determined to be vertical motion (z-direction motion) of the finger with respect to a virtual imaging plane (P) of the camera (C). As a result, provided are: a method that is for detecting the motion of an input body and that is able to detect 3D motion of the hand of a person from image analysis using one optical imaging means; and an input device for instruction operation using the method for detecting motion. |
