The device (17) has a set of relays (40, 41) and an electrical component (42) e.g. positive temperature coefficient thermistor, whose resistance rises if current flow is risen by the electrical component. The relays are switched in series, and the electrical component is switched parallel to one of the relays. The electrical component is designed as a high impedance electrical component or non-conductive electrical component when the current flow of the electric component exceeds a predetermined threshold value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a battery (2) a method for disconnecting a battery cell of a load.
