<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tampon properly exerting a liquid absorbing function. <P>SOLUTION: The tampon includes a string member 22 and an absorber which is formed by compressing an original absorber 30 of a flat shape to which the string member is attached. The original absorber has concave 40 or openings. The concave parts or openings has an elongate shape with a longitudinal direction and a width direction.
