<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IPS liquid crystal display device using a liquid crystal composition for an active matrix liquid crystal display device having a broad liquid crystal phase temperature range and a low viscosity. <P>SOLUTION: The IPS liquid crystal display device uses a nematic liquid crystal composition containing 35 to 65% of a compound represented by structural formula (1) as a first component and a compound represented by formula (2) as a second component. In the formulae, B<SP POS="POST">1</SP>to B<SP POS="POST">3</SP>are a cyclohexylene group or the like; L1 to L3 are a linking group such as a single bond; X<SP POS="POST">1</SP>to X<SP POS="POST">3</SP>are H, F, Cl or the like. The liquid crystal composition for an active matrix liquid crystal display device has a very low viscosity, and has a nematic phase in low temperatures, has a broad liquid crystal phase temperature range, and can be regulated in the refractive index anisotropy in a broad range.
