RE-STARTER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems of a vehicle control device having an idle function: when a starter is driven during backlash that occurs immediately before an engine stops completely, an excessive current flows and a system voltage decreases, and a brush in a starter motor may be worn abnormally and a semiconductor switch may be broken.

SOLUTION: The vehicle control device includes a function of controlling a drive force of the starter to an arbitrary value, and a normal rotation determination means having at least either a function of determining whether the engine rotates normally or not and/or a function of determining whether the engine is not rotated reversely or not. The control device for an automobile further includes an idle function which increases the drive force of the starter when the normal rotation determination means determines that the engine rotates normally or does not rotate reversely.
