The method involves detecting an image of a trailer (2) by an image capture device (4), which comprises a back camera of a towing vehicle (1). The acquired image is evaluated by an image data analysis such that an angle i.e. initial angle, between the towing vehicle and the trailer is determined based on the image data analysis in a motionless state of the towing vehicle. The acquired image is divided into non-uniform sectors, where size of each sector is selected depending on a distance of the respective sector to a coupling point (3) of the trailer. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining an angle between a towing vehicle and an associated trailer (2) a vehicle.
