CANCER STEM CELL ISOLATION

The present invention addresses the problem of providing: substantially uniform cancer stem cell populations containing cancer stem cells isolated using cell markers; and a method for producing said cancer stem cell populations. The present invention further addresses the problem of providing: a method for isolating cancel stem cells having a high proliferative capacity and cancer stem cells having a low proliferative capacity; a method for deriving stem cells having a different proliferative capacity; and cancer stem cells isolated/derived by such methods for isolation/derivation. The present invention also addresses the problem of providing: a drug screening method using the aforementioned cancer stem cells or cancer stem cell populations; and a method for detecting/identifying or quantifying the presence of the aforementioned cancer stem cells or cancer stem cell populations. Thus enabled is the acquisition of high-purity colon cancer stem cells (CSC) in large volumes, and the identification of two types of colon CSC state, distinguished by the expression of Lgr5.
