In conventional observation devices, a light source which irradiates light onto the outer surface of a windshield is arranged in front of the imaging element. Because of this, the accuracy of raindrop detection decreases when the diverging light emitted from the light source impinges directly onto the light-receiving surface of the imaging element. To solve this problem, this observation device detects adhered matter adhering to the outer surface of the windshield, and is provided with an irradiation unit for irradiating light towards an outer surface region of the windshield, and with an imaging element which receives, on a light-receiving surface, the irradiated light reflected on the outer surface region. The irradiation unit is arranged on the side of the imaging element opposite of the light-receiving surface.
|
