A seat slide device for a vehicle is provided with: a first rail which is adapted to be affixed to one of a vehicle floor and a vehicle seat; and a second rail which is adapted to be affixed to the other of the vehicle floor and the vehicle seat and which is connected in a relatively movable manner to the first rail. An engagement member has a pair of shaft sections protruding therefrom, and the pair of shaft sections are respectively inserted into a pair of support holes respectively formed in both second side wall sections of the second rail. When caused to pivot about the shaft sections in a first direction, the engagement member restricts relative movement between the first and second rails, and when caused to pivot in a second direction, the engagement member releases the restriction on the relative movement. The engagement member is pressed in the height direction by a pressing member so as to restrict the relative movement. Each of the support holes has a holding section. The width of the opening of the holding section measured in the direction of the relative movement between the first and second rails is gradually reduced in the direction in which the engagement member is pressed by the pressing member, and the width of the opening on the front end side in the pressing direction is smaller than the diameter of the shaft sections.
