The method involves providing initial rate recommendation to a driver of a vehicle output, and controlling speed of the vehicle independently on the provisional rate recommendation. A tentative velocity recommendation to the driver of vehicle output and/or speed of the vehicle autonomous on the tentative velocity recommendation is controlled. The tentative velocity recommendations are set for multiple lanes. A track recommendation is output to the driver of the vehicle depending on actual speed of the vehicle and tentative velocity recommendation specified for the lanes. An independent claim is also included for a combustion engine.
